Our group showed up to the airport Monday with great expectations to begin our journey to Guatemala. Twenty of us stood together in the corner of the airport with over 18 suitcases filled with supplies and our personal bags. The anticipation was through the roof and everyone was so excited to get on the plane.
Unfortunately, our flight was delayed and we had to spend the night in a hotel so we could get to the airport the following morning for an early flight. It wasn't the greatest start to our trip, but when we got to the hotel we had dinner and prayed together, and we began exchanging stories of how we were introduced to Saving Susan. It was a real treat getting to know one another and building rapport before serving together this week, so I believe God orchestrated it this way.
When we arrived to Guatemala there was a big green school bus waiting for us outside.
You would think the bus belonged to Saving Susan because the colors matched so well with our logo. When we arrived to Casa Bernabe were all amazed with how beautiful the campus was, and it looked extremely well kept. So we all got settled in and enjoyed a meal together followed by a guided tour of the campus, learning about everything Casa Bernabe has accomplished over the last 40 years. We ended the day with a soccer game and watched the kids from Guatemala compete against the kids and young adults from our group; let's just say we got beat pretty bad lol.
The next day we met up for an early breakfast and did a devotion. We spent some time reading scripture and prayed for God to use each of our unique gifts in a special way this week and for all of us to work together for His glory. The day was filled with lots of great activities planned for the children starting with a bible lesson, an art therapy project, and an amazing VBS!
While the VBS program was happening, some of the men were outside taping and setting up the pickle ball court for tomorrow's lesson. Everyone was working together in unison like we prayed about that morning and all of the children were beaming with joy and having a great time.
Tomorrow we will visit each of the homes on the campus to bring gifts for the children and house parents. I can go on and on about all the little moments we saw God at work during these last two days.
We are driving about 3 hours away tomorrow afternoon to visit with Manos De Compasion to serve the children and staff there as well. Please keep us in your prayers as we have a very full week ahead of us. We are grateful for the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus this week.
