Saving Susan Ministry Co-Founder, Tracy Arntzen, joined Sara Beth of the Simply127 podcast to share about the ministry’s origins and our unique approach to orphan care.
Earlier this month, Simply127 podcast host Sara Beth Fentress had our very own co-founder, Tracy Arntzen, on the show to talk about our approach to orphan care. The Simply127 podcast is centered around James 1:27 which says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” Sara Beth highlights in each episode a different person or group living out that verse by caring for the vulnerable.
On the podcast Tracy introduces how the ministry got started and how our approach to orphan care through Parent-Partnerships helps fulfill orphans’ needs both financially and relationally. Tracy began by sharing the story of her husband, Jay, going on a mission trip to Cambodia and falling so in love with a girl named Vichika that he wanted to adopt her, but he found that Cambodia had closed adoption borders. This ultimately led to the Arntzens founding SSM to connect loving families with orphans in need across closed borders.
Tracy then highlighted the importance of building relationships with the children early on and staying true to those relationships even when the child would typically “age out” of an orphan care system. One of the unique ways this is done is through our Parent-Partners staying in relationship and supporting their child past high school graduation through the Baskin-Bowler Scholarship program which provides college or trade school scholarships and discipleship training to our orphans who graduate from high school.
